Nursing Center
Description/Overview
Every Thursday from 9am – 1:30pm. nursing faculty and students from a local
university spearhead the "Nursing Center" program which offers clinical
education and support both one-on-one as well as in group settings. Seniors
receive personalized attention as nurses meet with each participant to complete
a full health assessment. Individuals are guided into appropriate programming to
help best manage their diabetes. Nursing faculty teach older adults about
diabetes and its potential complications, how to best manage their diet, the
keys to good nutrition, the importance of weight management, and the path to a
personalized fitness plan that works. Additional programming includes, a
Diabetes Support Group and individual ongoing counseling. A podiatrist and
nutritionist also collaborate, bringing added education and services to the
program.
Time and Manpower
The Nursing Center is open every Thursday, 9am to 1:30pm. One time capital
funds were secured to renovate a section of the Center to accommodate private
appointments with two small meeting rooms.
Marketing
Mostly word of mouth. Special programs offered by the Nursing Center are
advertised in the Center monthly newsletter.

Budget/Costs
No hard dollars are expended by the Center. There is time spent by Center
Director to assist in discussions and planning with the Nursing Faculty. All
costs of faculty is paid for by the University.
Impact On Center
The nursing faculty involved in this program are saving lives by recognizing
early signs of stroke and heart disease and having the ability to follow cases
more regularly than doctors.
