Purse Auction

Description/Overview
Acquired purses from various political officials and other well known people - purses were filled with various items then numbered & name of person that donated the purse was placed on the purse. People bought tickets to get into the event where there were also food items served. The purse were auctioned off & the center made $3,000.00.

Time and Manpower
Some of our cooking staff prepared a variety of tea sandwiches & other food items. Some of the other center Coordinators helped serve. The center Supervisor & the Director also helped. The event was all done in about four hours in one day but that is not counting the time it took to gather the purses. They even had a purse from the Governor's wife.

Marketing
Signs were placed all over town & at the County Office Building & the County Courthouse. It was advertised in the local paper.

Audience Served
There were people of all ages in attendance. Helped make younger people aware of the programs for seniors.

Partnerships Utilized
The connection with being a County Agency helped the center make many contacts with all the state & local political figures when acquiring purses.

Impact On Center
People in the community & in the County all became aware of the Senior Center & its value to the community.

Good Tips/Other
Need to have real go-getters on your team when you put this event together. The center was lucky to have other center staff help with this event. Need really good helpers.
