Development of a Senior Center Information Booklet

Description:
The West Newton Senior Community Center Computer Club comprised of members of the initial computer class has developed a center information booklet.  The booklet contains information on available programming activities, special events, historical information, center garnered digital photos of seniors in action, Rails to Trails hi-lites, and various services and volunteer opportunities offered to participants of the Center.  The Computer Club planned the booklet, wrote the text, took pictures of the seniors and put the whole book together.  After review and editing, the booklet was printed.  It is distributed at the local library and various doctors’ offices throughout the community.

Target Audience:
Members of the community, especially anyone 60 years of age and older

Organizations Involved:
West Newton Senior Community Center Computer Club

Budget:
Members of the computer club donated supplies for the project, including paper, ink, film, and card stock.

Impact:
The booklet makes older adults in the community aware of programs and services available at the center.  It also introduces the general public to the center’s activities.

Problems:
The main issues the club cited were dealing with digital photo design, developing the page layout and print set-up.  The opinion of the club members, though, was that the experience was worth the effort.
